Address from the Minister

I congratulate the Bureau of Energy Efficiency and United States Agency for International Development for the development and launch of NZEB Knowledge Portal and NZEB Alliance.
Both these initiatives are a reaffirmation of India’s commitment to tackle the climate change challenge, embedded in the Intended Nationally Determined Commitments by the Government of India at the 21st Conference of Parties (2015) in Paris.
The need for espousing a low emissions trajectory for the building sector is underlined by the enormous increase in its overall energy footprint. The ever increasing demand for energy from the sector will increase dependence on imported fuel, contribute to higher greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and strain the country’s fossil fuel dependent energy infrastructure.
Net Zero Energy Buildings are a cataclysmic approach for reducing energy use and GHG emissions in the building sector.
NZEB Knowledge Portal will enhance awareness about the benefits and feasibility of constructing NZEBs in India. It will simultaneously provide a platform for information on design and construction of low energy buildings. These efforts will be augmented by the NZEB Alliance, which will bring together intellectual resources required to create market and policies conducive to NZEBs.
I hope that the information in the portal and efforts of the alliance assist in ensuring that net zero energy buildings are the new paradigm for the building industry in India.
