UK needs hydrogen, carbon capture to meet net zero goal According to National Grid, Britain’s goal of achieving net zero emissions by mid-century is achievable but immediate action is needed across a range of technologies including carbon capture and storage (CCS) Challenges – CCS – which traps emissions and buries them underground – is also not at the commercialisation stage – Hydrogen as a fuel has been gaining traction but the number of projects using “green” hydrogen – made from renewable energy – are quite few and costly. Strengthening energy efficiency norms are required to meet climate goals by EU Nations
Some EU countries achieved much lower savings than what would be needed for 2018 to reach their cumulative savings requirements for 2014–2020. Despite of the decline by 0.7% in the consumption of primary energy in 2018 (-0.1% only for final energy consumption), it is insufficient to meet the 2020 targets for the EU nations. Read More
Fire and meltdown of sea ice in the Arctic Region
Fire and meltdown of sea ice in the Arctic Region Siberia is getting hotter than most parts of Florida, with a temperature topping 30 deg C. Exceptional and prolonged heat catalyzed the Arctic inferno and is decreasing the extent of sea-ice coverage affecting the ecosystem and local population. The decrease in ice coverage is affecting the polar bears and seals which are facing the risk of extinction. The Arctic region is heating at twice the speed of the global average and this calls for countries around the globe to adhere to their carbon emission goals. Read More |
