Announcing Net Zero Energy Building tours across India
EDS is organizing tours of nearly-zero/ net-zero energy buildings across India. This initiative aims to create awareness and increase exposure to NZEBs or high performance buildings. The lineup for August includes the Godrej Plant 13 Annexe in Mumbai and the Centre for Advanced Research in Building Science and Energy (CARBSE) in Ahmedabad.
Upcoming Tours
Upcoming NZEB international tour in Australia
EDS has planned an international NZEB study tour in Australia, slated for the last week of November, 2019. It will feature curated visits to Net Zero and high performance buildings in Sydney and Adelaide and interactive sessions with leading experts in policy, design and technology.

Featured project

CARBSE at CEPT University : A model NZEB
The Centre for Advanced Research in Building Science and Energy (CARBSE) in CEPT University, Ahmedabad operates as a net-zero energy building. Using a combination of active and passive strategies, on-site PV system, rigorous monitoring, data analysis and integrated controls, the facility clocked an Energy Performance Index (EPI) of 25.4 kWh/sqm/year in 2018. As a living laboratory, it provides invaluable lessons in designing, constructing and operating a net-zero energy facility. Learn more.

Contests

Prajna Aigal is the rainwater harvesting #nzebindia contest winner
Who says rainwater harvesting has to be a hidden feature in a building? The winning entry captures the innovative rainwater harvesting system in TERI, Bangalore, where a railing catches and transports rainwater to an underground tank.
Participate in EESL's #InnovatetoINSPIRE challenge
Energy Efficiency Services Limited has launched #InnovatetoINSPIRE - a first-of-its-kind energy innovation challenge. Submit sustainable and scalable solutions on any of 5 themes- improved grid management system, energy-efficient tech, clean energy, electric mobility and financial improvements. The deadline is 31st August,2019. Learn more.

Global updates

Godrej Plant 13 becomes first IGBC Net Zero Energy certified project
A 10-year old high performance office-cum-convention centre, the Godrej Plant 13 annexe recently achieved the net-zero energy target by improving its operational and monitoring system efficiencies. Read More.
Climate-responsive NZEB in Singapore
The School of Design and Environment 4 (SDE4) in National University of Singapore is Singapore's first new-build NZEB, demonstrating a deep understanding of tropical climates, with 50% of the space ventilated naturally, an innovative hybrid cooling system and landscape that enhances water quality. Read more.
Berkeley becomes first U.S city to ban natural gas in new homes
A new ordinance passed in the city of Berkeley requires all new single-family homes, town homes and small apartment buildings to replace natural gas with electric infrastructure. The move will help the city reduce its greenhouse gas emissions and transition to 100% renewable electricity use by 2035. Read more.
Glasgow and Edinburgh race to reach net zero emissions by 2045
Glasgow is looking to decarbonise transport and heat while increasing renewable energy sources. Edinburgh is looking to reduce its carbon emissions by increasing its renewable energy sources, constructing energy efficient buildings and producing food locally.
