Case Study

Star Garment Innovation Centre, Sri Lanka
The renovated factory building is the first certified Passive House building in Sri Lanka. It is designed to improve the working conditions for employees amidst the hot and humid climate while keeping energy demand low. Infact, after a year of occupancy, the building reduced its annual energy use by around 54% compared to its original performance. Many of the strategies used- like continuous exterior insulation, highly efficient windows, variable refrigerant flow heat pumps with wraparound heat pipe for enhanced dehumidication capacity and balanced ventilation with heat recovery- could be used in future industrial projects in tropical climates.
